Philadelphia (
Pennsylvania), die ihre
Aufgabe darin sieht, auf Erden die Gottesherrschaft zu errichten (u. a. eine Welt ohne
Rüstung,
Todesstrafe und Profitstreben), deren Keim in der F. D. P. M. präsent sei. Buße und
Wiedergeburt führen die
Anhänger zu einem Leben ohne Alkoholgenuss,
Rauchen, Spielen. Von Mitgliedern geführte Handwerksbetriebe, Kaufläden, Hotels (Kingdoms) dienen der
Finanzierung der »Friedensmission«. Ihren
Höhepunkt erlebte die F. D. P. M. in den 1930er- bis 50er-Jahren mit (geschätzt) einigen Zehntausend Anhängern in den USA und Kanada; nach Bakers Tod sank die Anhängerzahl. 1935 fand die »Friedensmission«
Eingang in der
Schweiz, 1945 auch in
Deutschland. Die Verehrung Bakers als Manifestation Gottes (»Father Divine«) durch seine Anhänger ging nach seinem Tod auf seine zweite Frau, die Kanadierin Edna Rose Ritchings über, die seither als »Mother Divine« die Gemeinschaft leitet.
